Shira Avni's animated documentary, Tying Your Own Shoes, was honoured with the Golden Dove Award for a short film at the 52nd International Leipzig Festival for Documentary and Animated Film. The film made its world premiere at the festival.
The film offers a rare opportunity to hear the unique perspectives of four adult artists with Down Syndrome. The Golden Dove is awarded to a film that gives voice to a segment of society that has long been rendered voiceless – while at the same time expanding the vocabulary of documentary film aesthetics. The Golden Dove award comes with a prize of € 5,000.
The International Leipzig Festival for Documentary and Animated Film – DOK Leipzig – is the largest German and one of the leading international festivals for artistic documentary and animated films.
